George hosts successful Tekkie Town u12 Tournament
Outeniqua Park was alight with action recently with the 5th Annual Tekkie Town u.12 Soccer Tournament - and not even the rain could dampen the spirit in the stadium. With teams coming from all over the region to attend, it was by far the biggest event hosted by George United Football Club to date. The George Social Development Services organised an entertainment show at the half way point of the tournament, which included a speech from George Executive Councillor Bevin Fortuin, dancing and live musical performances from local groups and artists. The championship final was between Firefighters and Lucky Stars, both teams from Cape Town, with Lucky Stars finally winning out 3-2. Each player of the winning team walked away with brand new boots supplied by Tekkie Town and Puma. The best player of the tournament - Mica van Rooyen from Oakhill, also walked away with a pair of Puma boots. The best young player title was won by Devon Jerlings (7-years-old) from the Cobras in George.
George Municipality was represented by executive councilors Bevin Fortuin, Jacoba Muller and Iona Kritzinger.
Also included was the Department Corporate Services with its Social Unit, represented by Jonel Kerspuy, Roland Hardnick, Sophie Fanelo, Rose Methlo and Estelle Fredericks as well as Sport Official, Kidron Kaboni.
