My Mandela Day Experience
While serving my 67 minutes @ Ikemeleng Youth Centre in Alexandra, I got to chat to the guys who do more than just the 67 minutes commemoration. Davina Van Wyk is the manager of the centre and the team that she works with consists of Sabelo, Johnny, Keke and Linda, young people in their 20's from Alex. I was really impressed with their passion for what they do as we laughed away while we worked.
These are the guys who tutor, mentor and assist youth after school, the guys who fill the gap that parents aren’t able to fill with academics and the guys who get to be life coaches or peer counsellors for the youth in the developing township. Big up's to the SU, Ikemeleng team, you guys make South Africa look good and I am proud to be associated with such heroes and our heroine Davina. The struggle for a better future continues and because of people like this who care enough to do something daily about our social ills, the future has light rays beaming for the good of the nation. Today was 67 minutes but may my kindness, hands and assistance be a daily gift to my community and country.
