HIV testing among men has improved
More men are getting tested for HIV according to New Start, the largest HIV counselling and testing service provider in South Africa. The increase is good for HIV prevention in South Africa. Many men do not get tested because they are afraid of the results and they do not like to go to clinics. Last year, New Start tested over 110 000 people and more than half were male. Their programme is made to appeal to men and couples. The service is convenient because they open late on weekdays and are also open on Saturdays. There also counselling and testing teams that go out into the community and bring their service to people.
