New stimulation programme for disabled children

The Uhambo Foundation has partnered with the Lonwabo Day Care Centre in Mfuleni, a centre catering for 21 disabled children. We have established a skills training programme for the caregivers and Ndinogona "I can" stimulation programme, for children with disabilities. Care givers are confidently using the Ndinogona Stimulation kit which assists caregivers to interact and stimulate children with disabilities, allowing them to play and participate more in daily activities. The kit also contains some home made stimulation toys made from recycled materials which are made by some of the disabled youth and women in the community of Du Noon. This has provided creative activities and some income. Parents are shown how to make some of the toys at home, with recycled or household objects, which allows them to continue stimulating and playing with children at home. For more information on the Ndinogons "I can" stimulation programme please contact Lorraine on 021 7625094 or info@uhambofoundation.org.za
