Garden will grow hope
Doreen Twala, the founder of Masikhangezane Women’s Club in Hammarsdale, formed a non-profit organization in the early 90’s as a way of helping the community. The project came about during a time of war when people had no money and were losing their loved ones. So the organization was formed to help the needy, by collecting funds to buy groceries for the disadvantaged. Over the years the organization has grown and a youth club has been formed to help keep the youth off the streets, by encouraging music, dance and drama. The most recent addition to the organization is the gardening project which is aimed at helping to fight poverty by planting vegetables for people and helping clean out their homes and yards. At the end of the day it’s about making sure people have food to eat and making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
