The Sweethearts Foundation

Since Valentine’s Day in 2013, The Sweethearts Foundation has given more than 600 South Africans something many of us take for granted: the freedom to move. More than 600 bespoke wheelchairs. More than 600 lives changed. More than 600 families no longer have to carry a child everywhere they go or watch a loved one sit on the sidelines. We believe two things deeply: our planet deserves better, and mobility is a basic human right. A wheelchair is not a luxury. It is access to school, work, dignity, and independence. Across South Africa, individuals, schools, and organizations collect plastic Bottle Tops, Bread Tags, Soda Tabs, and Takeaway Lids. These are small items, easy to discard, but powerful when saved together. These materials are responsibly recycled, and the proceeds are used to manufacture customized wheelchairs for beneficiaries at the top of our waiting list.
