Success story

From a little girl with a spark of curiosity to a professional artist on big stages, her journey is one of hope and possibility. She grew up under our wing, where her gift for the Mbira was nurtured from childhood. With mentorship, guidance, and encouragement, she found her voice. Today, she steps onto theatre stages, her fingers dancing on the Mbira, her music echoing far beyond what she once dreamed. She is living proof that when talent is discovered and supported, it can blossom into greatness

In 2017 our founder heard about Epworth a local town notorious for its high levels of poverty, crime, child marriages and drug abuse. Her observation showed that a quite number of adolescents roam the streets engaging in sexual activities and drug abuse. She is very passionate about the wellbeing of children her intention was to create a meaningful change in the lives of young people growing up in this community. She didn’t have the qualification but did have the heart for the community. Our founder initiated The Shepherds Club in 2017 by approaching heads of schools volunteering to teach traditional dance and drama. She got a chance at Chizungu Primary to teach children role plays to help them realise the impact of child marriages and Drug Abuse. Also she observed there was quite number of school drop outs and approached the authorities at Domboramwari local police station with intention to support and play with community young people under safe environment. She was given the permission to invite the school dropouts to join their junior police group. Her mentorship attracted many children's heart and the number got bigger from the 13 to 50 in total .In 2018 she volunteered for Plan International as a Child Protection mentor and engaged more young people increasing number to 70. We conducted sessions every Saturday at Kubatana Primary a local school in Epworth until the end of program in 2019. In 2020 we registered Shepherds Trust and we have been able to create fun and engaging activities for the children to enjoy. The development from a club to a Non Governmental organization also allowed us to organize more activities that made a huge difference like Period Talk, challenging social norms and issues that affects young people. Shepherds goal is to create a world where every child has a safe and supportive environment to explore their talents and grow into confident and capable adults. We hope to expand our work to reach even more children and youth to create even more spaces for them to thrive. From its humble background as Shepherds Trust we are proud that one of our beneficiaries has managed to break the barriers of Epworth. An inspiring story to other young people to believe in their own potential.
