Here's a little more info about this opportunity...

The meals we provide at Bornstar are very important to the kids. They help the kids stay healthy and free from malnutrition because many of our kids come from extremely poor families that can not even afford a meal a day. The food we serve the kids help them stay in school and is mainly what they depend on until the next day;meaning that food motivates them to attend school. Poverty is a menace facing many families. Many kids are orphaned while others only live with their single teenage mothers who can not provide for them due to lack of employment. Many girls drop out of school here in Kibera due to early pregnancies that result from a number of factors. One, poverty. Poverty in families stop girls from attending school since they can no longer pay their school fees.In addition, lack of necessary things such as sanitary pads put young girls at the risk of being deceived by men that they would help them if the girls offered themselves to them. This too brings early pregnancies that bring kids who cannot be taken care of. Two, bad influence from the society lures young girls into irresponsible sexual behaviors which lead to pregnancies. The boys who get them pregnant refute responsibilities and leave girls to suffer with kids alone. Many kids in the slum have unknown fathers. Domestic violence is another factor that leads to family separation leaving kids languishing in poverty. HIV/AIDS has also deprived kids of a family to look after them. This is why we established a children and educational center for such kids because kids are always innocent and deserve to be cared for irrespective of their background. I beseech all well wishers to come on board and help us care for these kids better. Any form of support will be highly appreciated.
