Upper Highway Baby Home

Our programme supports up to 500 young school going mothers and their babies, striving to ensure they do not become forgotten in the face of overwhelming challenges. We seek to offer holistic, sustainable assistance that addresses the many struggles these mothers face. We provided essential items such as food, baby formula, sanitary products, healthcare supplies, prams, toys and other necessities. We also provide emotional and practical support, and guide mothers with basic health and medical advice for their baby. In South Africa, between April 2017 and September 2021, the number of births to young and adolescent girls between 10 and 14 years of age increased by 48.7%. Between April 2020 and March 2021, 934 girls between 10 and 14 years old gave birth in Gauteng Province alone. Further, of the 1,764 babies born in South Africa on 1 January 2022, 65 were born to adolescent girls. The youngest was a 13-year-old from the Eastern Cape.
