Help iThemba Projects with 50 volunteers for sewing cloth masks #MandelaDay

Here's a little more info about this opportunity...

We know that when we all wear cloth masks it helps slow the spread of COVID19; however, there are many people we work with in our community who travel on public transport for shopping and to get to work who don't have masks (let alone school children). We are able to distribute cloth masks through our partner schools, the local taxi system, and our home-garden visits. The more masks we can get, the better, as there are about 60 thousand people who live in Sweetwaters! A BASIC MASK is fine: 16cm by 14cm regtangular shape, with elastic or cloth straps, make sure you have 3 layers to keep with Dept of Health guidelines. If you are an avid sewer and have another pattern, feel free to use, as long as it has 3 layers. Masks can be couriered to our offices in Hilton, or dropped off when complete. Please arrange with us to drop off, as our office hours are reduced due to COVID-19. #mandeladay

Helpful tips

Stay safe

  1. 1Don’t pass any personal information to people you haven’t met offline before.
  2. 2When meeting one of your contacts offline for the first time, always be sure to arrange to meet in a public place.
  3. 3Make sure that you are not left alone with someone that you have never met before.
  4. 4Know where you’re going. If you’re headed off the beaten track or into an unfamiliar part of town, be sure you have directions and a GPS or map book.
  5. 5If you feel unsafe, consult the person in charge and let him or her know.
