2021 Teenage convention camps
'The Best me I can be'- teenage convention
COTD, funded by RMB, hosted teenage convention camps at the end of 2021. The camps held were in Limpopo and Kwazulu Natal and hosted 148 beneficiaries in total. Our camps were themed "The Best Me I Can Be" and consisted of various sessions, games and teambuilding activities for the teenagers. Different methodologies were used to facilitate the lessons set out for the camp, such as role plays, group discussions, interactive questions and answer sessions and lecture style facilitated discussion around varying topics concerning the teenager. This enabled the young people to participate without being self-conscious, shy or intimidated. Our interactive sessions covered topics such as Sexual Education, Puberty, The Importance of Consent, Relationships - unhealthy and healthy relationships, and Making significant changes as a teenager. The main goal of the camp was to deter young people from being engaged in risky behaviors but rather to encourage them to spend time engaging in activities that will allow them to be the best version of themselves even beyond the camp. In addition they were encouraged to choose their friendships wisely, also avoiding abusive friendships, overall. to start making decisions that will help them as they seek to become 'The Best me I can be'.
