We are a place of safety for children, who have fallen victim to rape and abuse.  We currently have 32 children living in our home, daily it's a struggle fending for these vulnerable children in need, we desperately need much support. We too provide much-needed food to nine soup kitchens feeding around 2000-2500 children Mon-Fri in nine different locations within East London.

We also provide food parcels for single unemployed mothers who are struggling to make ends meet. We do monthly outreaches and various community work from helping the destitute, doing Christmas parties for hundreds of children each year, and surprising children who've never had a birthday party with a very special one.  

We support various children's homes & daycares who are struggling even though we too need the support. We as HTIN have a principle we stand by, when you receive you must also give.

Our Empowering Abilities program is dedicated to the upliftment of unemployed, disadvantaged youth with disabilities and their communities. Our mission is the provide comprehensive support and opportunities for growth to over 150 youth per year. Through our accredited and skills development programs we equip them with the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to gain a qualification and obtain formal employment or become business owners themselves. 
APD has been established as an NPO for 83 years, and to date has positively impacted the lives of over 87, 000 persons with disabilities. 85% of learners trained are permanently employed or have become established Business owners. 1000’s of jobs have been created and Businesses opened.
We currently offer accredited skills and social development training in:

Exhibition For A Child focuses on community based educational initiatives for RURAL LEARNER DEVELOPMENT. The initiative primarily focuses on learners from underprivileged backgrounds, who have little or no exposure to proper education opportunities/resources and career guidance. Not only do we support local school, but we run number of community empowering outreaches that involve meal support, agriculture initiatives, and youth empowerment.

OUR IMPACT
The NPO precisely target and works with schools and communities from remote rural areas. We have successfully adopted 22 schools, 5 Orphanage Homes, 1 Old Age Home and 2 Creches under our banner. Since then, we have been able to donate: 
- Sanitary towels to over 3000 girls
- Over 500 Hygiene care packages 
- Over 2500 school shoes and uniform
- Launched 10 vegetable gardens
- Trained over 900 kids and teachers on soft skills and 
- Donated over 300 Food packs

Our Centre takes care of 79 vulnerable children between the ages of 4-18 years, placed in our care by the Children's Court with a 2 year court order. They are cared for by child and youth care workers and stay in 7 cottages. Programmes include residential care, therapy, health care, recreation and developmental programmes, education and tutoring, and sport. Children visit their families during certain week-end s and holidays with the aim to strengthen relationships resulting in children being reunited with their families. We make use of volunteers including helping with homework, playing sport, reading to children, collection goods in kind e.g. food, arranging fun days/outings, assisting with our dance group, painting of cottages, beautifying our gardens etc. We have various fundraising activities including in-kind collections, proposal writing, debit order projects etc. Businesses received a tax certificate and also B-BBEE recognition for any support provided to our Centre.

We give a place of safety to orphaned or abandoned children in the East London Area.  We currently have 73 children. We education them and teach them core values, essential life skills to enable them to grow up to be a generation that will live lives that influence positive change in South Africa    We have a Creche and Toddler section,   Grade R  then Grades 1 - 7  and a high school class which is now extremely full.   On the Farm we have horses, chickens, geese, dogs and a donkey.     Children are encourged to take part in as many extra mural activities as we have which include:    horseriding,  soccer,  ball skills,   gardening (grow our own veggies)  We do not get government funding so rely on sponsors and donations.

Our home offers full time care and accommodation for 57 physically disabled adults. They have varying disabilities and some 90% rely on mobility aids for movement. However many do not have funds or access to resource to support their mobility needs. Wheelchair batteries and accessories are so expensive. At present they recieve a measly R1600 disability pension. A set of batteries cost about R2400. We have 2 residents that require batteries (Dylan and Mark) and we have residents that need new electric chairs - Gary, Johan and Ricardo. These chairs offer them freedom of movement. As it is, their lives are compromised due to limited movement... so being able to support their existing range by giving movement - so affording them the opportunity of independence and a range of options.... such as going to Spar up the road, visiting friends in the neighbourhood and just getting around the home without having to always depend on someone to push.

Jika Uluntu meaning to “turn/change community” was founded in July 2017 in response to the extensive needs of the children and their families living along the Jikeleza Wild Coast Route in the Eastern Cape. 
The organisation’s vision is for every vulnerable child to access the opportunities to thrive.
Jika Uluntu strives to achieve its vision in a sustainable manner by strengthening families and their communities through partnerships, capacity building and support services. Following a participatory and comprehensive needs analysis, 4 strategic outcomes where identified as follows: 
Outcome 1: Improved parenting & relationship between guardians and their children
Outcome 2: Improved health and wellbeing of poverty stricken & HIV affected households
Outcome 3: Improved school attendance and performance
Outcome 4: Improved economic resilience of poverty stricken & HIV/Aids affected households
The primary activities delivered towards meeting the outcomes include, household visits and counseling services, adult training and workshops, enabling access to health services, HIV/TB testing and screening, Foundation Phase social behavior programme, homework support groups and enabling early childhood development.

Elsen Academy opened its doors at the beginning of 2006. Its founders had a vision of an independent school that catered for the needs of children who had barriers to learning. The local state school had limited capacity and strict enrollment criteria. Elsen initially started with just 13 learners from grades 1-3 and operated out of a small church building in Walmer. Such was the need for a school like Elsen, that just three months later, the school moved into a larger property in Heugh Road. The school was now growing rapidly and in the middle of 2009 the school moved once again into its current premises in Bird Street.

Registered with the Education Department as an independent special needs school (EMIS 101021), Elsen Academy caters for students from grades 1-12. The school has been granted accreditation from Umalusi and is a proud member of the Independent Schools Association of South Africa (ISASA). 
Elsen Academy is a place filled with happy children who want to learn, caring and passionate teachers who love to facilitate learning using a curriculum that we make interesting and relevant so that every child, regardless of their ability or challenges, can reach their full potential. We don’t set the bar, the child does!

Inkwenkwezi Youth Development Sporting Foundation IYDSF is a rural youth-led non-governmental, not- for-profit company that uses the power of sport to educate, inspire and mobilize at-risk youth in Ngqushwa local municipality, in the Eastern Cape - Peddie.

Crime free society wherein the youth is safe, employable, academically achieving, healthy and sociallly connected.

Mission

Mainstream youth in all spheres of society. We use our sport programme as a vehicle to teach life skills. To promote healthy living among youth, and academic excellence. Our Foundation then assists young people in forging their future by helping them access training and employment opportunities. We provide promising students with bursary assistance and ongoing support. To combat crime through integrated, holistic youth development through sport.

What we do

IYDSF is a youth-led organization that uses the power of sport to educate, motivate, and inspire children and youth to overcome challenges, and live healthy and productive lives, whilst being game changers in their communities. In addition, programmes encourage community participation, contribute to crime prevention strategies, and promote rural youth safety.

How we do it

We use sports as a vehicle for learning and youth development for female and male youths. To facilitate holistic youth development, we offer and incorporate life skills and work readiness into our programmes.

Permaculture - Inter schools garden competition

We encourage primary school learners to participate in food gardening – providing for the nutrition needs of the schools and surrounding communities. Each year, primary schools in Ngqushwa municipality are invited to participate in the IYDSF inter-school food gardening competition. Learners and educators are trained in permaculture and receive a starter pack kit for their food garden. These gardens are maintained by learners and parents.

Work-readiness

To prepare young people for the workplace, IYDSF have partnered with National Youth Development Agency, Harambe and Lullaway (Job centre) to offer graduates and school leavers work readiness programmes and registration onto the employment seekers database.

Linking students to higher education funding

One of the primary obstacles to rural youth progressing after completing secondary education, is having the financial resources to follow a higher education learning track. IYDSF, through partnering with the CATHSSETA, link beneficiaries to bursary opportunities.

Raising up Game Changer Champions

IYDSF, while addressing need for opportunities to further education, substance abuse and drugs, high levels of youth crime, gender equity, and Sexual Reproductive Health Rights, also focus on determinants of health such as education and employment, to ensure adolescents stay on positive path into adulthood. Game Changer Champions are programme participants who have been engaged in the programme for some time. They are mentored to support and act as role models to younger participants. A total of 50 Game Changer Champions are trained and mentored each year. Key game changer committments:
• Engaging physical fitness
• Avoiding drugs and alcohol
• Employability
• Community service

Youth Rights mainstreaming, sport and behavior change

Breath of Life is an initiative of the Restore Trust, a public benefit organisation started in 2009. Breath of Life's focus is primarily on the support of women dealing with crisis pregnancies, as well as providing immediate refuge for babies that have been abandoned, needing temporary safe care due to abuse and neglect or placed for adoption. 

We assist women with unplanned pregnancies and related issues by providing hope, information, support and a number of other free services, thereby empowering them to make good life choices. To date, over 24 800 women have been counseled through a crisis pregnancy.  We currently have 3 counselors who offer crisis pregnancy counseling in 4 termination centres as well as local schools and on site in Selborne. 

The Breath of Life Place of Safety is situated at 2 Dawson Road, Selborne and currently has a capacity for 6 to 10 babies.  The babies are either delivered by the SAPS, members of the public or social services and placed into our care.  The house is staffed by house parents and a team of baby caregivers and volunteers.  Our babies are given 24-hour expert care and unconditional love which facilitates the start to their healing journey.  We believe each baby is precious and God has a purpose for their lives.  We are honored to be entrusted with their care and are thankful for any blessing which we receive which helps us take care of God's children and our countries future generation.  

As of 30 January 2020, 172 babies have been cared for at the Breath of Life Place of Safety.

Vulnerable children and unemployed youth are acutely impacted by the knock-on impact of Covid-19 lockdown & regulations. The COVID19 pandemic has placed a spotlight on the vulnerability of children who are likely to be left behind, while the world is concentrating on a health crisis.

As these vulnerable children have been put at risk, their safety and basic rights, such as nutrition, education, protection from abuse and violence and daily hygiene have come under threat. A hungry child cannot thrive. An uneducated child cannot access opportunities. A malnutrition child does not develop to their full potential. A violent child grow up thinking violence is okay. A child without a family finds their only family in the number on the streets, i.e. a gang.

Uviwe Child & Youth Services is acutely aware of the secondary effects that have resulted from Covid-19 regulations and lockdown restrictions, particularly on the lives of children in under resourced-communities. The knock-on impact of school & feeding scheme closures, the loss of family income and the struggle for parents and caregivers to care for their children have far reaching effects. Unemployed youth cannot access the internet, or connect with online learning programmes and the gap between skilled and unskilled, employed and unemployed are getting bigger and bigger. The most vulnerable is left behind.

At UVIWE we realised the need to upscale our response, to not only fight the spread of the coronavirus, but to also ensure vulnerable children and youth are not left behind. We've developed an action plan to offer sustainable solutions, while dealing with the challenges presented by the global outbreak of COVID-19. We all had to adapt rapidly to the emerging ‘different normal', acknowledging that this is more difficult for vulnerable children and youth in low-income communities.

Our Covid-19 Action Plan is based on our three-fold strategy to ensure that no child is left behind – from first steps to fist job:
1. Provide immediate RELIEF during lockdown.
2. RESTORE opportunities for vulnerable children & youth to thrive, according to a “different” normal, as lockdown levels are lifted and
3. RENEW our ECD, Teens and Youth development programmes to ensure children and youth are overcomers and can thrive in the long term.

We've created different opportunities for you to make a meaningful difference during, after, and in the future of vulnerable children and youth, far beyond lockdown. It is everyone’s responsibility to continue to create pathways for all children to reach their full potential. Together we can achieve massive things, even while the country is in lockdown and the world is dealing with a global health pandemic!

Extensive financial resources are needed for us to continue to protect the most vulnerable, while starting up education and development programmes to help young people succeed at school, at life, and creating self-employment opportunities and participate in the economic rebuilding of our community.

Healing Hands Foundation is a Non Profit Organization and caters for disadvantaged people of Port Elizabeth by offering nutritional meals, educational awareness campaigns and a safe house for victims of crime.

Constrained by the love of Jesus, Sophumelela Centre was established as an Anti-Retroviral (ARV) clinic by First City Baptist Church in December 2004. Little Sparklers, a day care centre for the children of patients attending the ARV Clinic, was established in 2005.

From humble beginnings with only 3 children, Little Sparklers has grown into Hope Schools now caring for 226 learners from Grade 00 to Grade 7. Hope Schools is growing up on land donated by Johnson & Johnson alongside their factory in Wilsonia, with a vision to grow by a grade a year through to secondary school.

Through no fault of their own, all our children are either infected, affected or orphaned by HIV/AIDS. Most of them come from homes where the families live way below the poverty line and we are trying to assist these parents, grandparents or caregivers to give their children a first class, first world and Christian education and importantly, give them the skills and confidence to change their futures.

The African Angels Independent School in Chintsa East, just outside East London provides a quality primary school education by exceptional teachers for children who will innovate, and be the hope for our future.  African Angels educates children who have limited resources and live in situations that are unimaginable to most of us, yet they are determined to grow into educated, productive and responsible citizens. 

Many of the students who have graduated from African Angels have been accepted into, and attend, some of the most prestigious high schools in the country like the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in Johannesburg. They have qualified for bursaries that allow them to access incredible educational opportunities and break the cycle of poverty they were born into.

7th Heaven Children’s Haven was founded by Nelly Senong to provide a loving and disciplined Christian home to children taken into care due to severe neglect and/or abuse. 

Our mission is to give these children back their dignity and sense of self worth, to help them grow to be valued members of society. Nelly is Montessori trained and we have a small classroom for the little ones to attend pre-school at the Haven, whilst in the afternoons the older ones can do homework and extra tuition there. 

Nelly also has training to deal with Alcohol Foetal Syndrome in babies, counselling and play therapy. 

Our programmes to help the children develop and grow in self confidence include arts and crafts, gymnastics (which they love), singing and swimming.  Education is a challenge and also health as the children are often very underdeveloped or ill when they come to us. We thank the volunteers, and specialists who help us here. Fund raising is also a challenge.
