Phakamani Young Minds Academy

Phakamani Young Minds Academy (PYMA) is a youth development organisation based in Freedom Park, Johannesburg South. Our mission is to empower children and young people with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities they need to thrive — in school, in life, and in their communities. We work primarily with learners from Grades 1 to 12, offering a range of holistic, community-rooted programmes designed to close the gap in education, personal development, and family support. At the heart of our work is the Afterschool Programme, where learners receive academic support in Maths, English, and Life Skills, complemented by leadership development, psychosocial support, and access to a safe and nurturing learning environment. Our sessions are co-led by trained tutors and mentors, many of whom come from the same communities we serve.
