Umgeni community Care Centre was formed with a goal to cater for the social well-being of the less fortunate members of the KZN community. The organization provides services to ensure self-sustainable livelihoods. UCEC functions purely as a charitable organization and is currently dependent on monetary and in-kind donations. OUR VISION A holistic Approach to bring a measure of self-relief and a sense of self-worth to less fortunate individuals, families and communities OUR MISSION Empowering people to become self-sustainable Following are the organisation’s Focus areas: ❖ Disaster relief Food security ❖ Soup Kitchen and Daily feeding ❖ Gender Based Violence awareness workshops ❖ Human Trafficking workshops and Annual campaigns ❖ Rehabilitation of sex workers ❖ Shelter for GBV, Human trafficking and Sex work victims ❖ Youth internship programmes ❖ ECD center's food supply ❖ Orphaned and Vulnerable Children food supply ❖ Community Gardens ❖ Establishing small businesses for women and youth. Social Cohesion OUR PROJECTS: Gender Based Violence, Sex Worker and Human Trafficking Drop-In centers This project is a help desk for victims to come, receive counselling, food and shelter for severe cases of Abuse. UCEC has been accommodating homeless and abused victims of abuse for years. The organization rents out accommodation and pays for all residential costs for its beneficiaries Food Security: Food Parcels and Soup Kitchen UCEC seeks donations, prepares and distributes food parcels on a weekly bases to the above-mentioned areas. The organisation also prepares meals and feeds the homeless, the elderly and the hungry on a daily basis. Shiloh House Crisis Centre began in 2006 as a result of our ‘Women of Worth’ street ministries during which UCEC came across an alarmingly high number of abused women and children in need of refuge. Shiloh House provides support and counselling services while serving as a safe haven for beneficiaries to deal with their circumstances while living a dignified life. The is a place for temporary relief where victims of gender-based violence, human trafficking and other forms of abuse stay until they can be resettled sustainably. Beneficiaries are provided with accommodation, food, clothing & toiletries, counselling, a care plan and referrals to specialised or long term services. Over and above these services, they are also assisted with health needs, a care plan – personal development, typing of CV’s and applications for jobs, ID documents and grants.
