Help Cheshire Home Summerstrand by Create opportunity through movement... for needy residents who need wheelchairs
Here's a little more info about this opportunity...
Welcome to Cheshire Home Summerstrand Cheshire Home Summerstrand is a home for 57 chronically physically disabled residents. We provide care, support and opportunity to each resident at the Home. Our residents come from all walks of life and their disabilities have resulted from a number of possible causes: diving accidents, motor vehicle and motor bike accidents, impairment from birth, illness (strokes, asthma); degenerative disease; rugby injury, crime and assault. Most of our residents only receive a government disability pension of R1 600 per month of which R1 100 is used towards the running of the Home. The balance is issued back to the resident as pocket money. This together with a departmental subsidy are crucial sources of income. However this is not enough and we have to fundraise an additional R 160 000 per month to meet the basic requirements of running a home and providing care and opportunity to each resident. In addition the Home has an outreach programme, Khaya Cheshire, in Walmer Township. This is a “Care and Development Centre” for 22 physically/mentally disabled children whom we strive to teach and get back into the mainstream of education. We invite you to visit Cheshire Home Summerstrand and become a partner in helping us make a difference
