Here's a little more info about this opportunity...

Overview The recent rise in the cost of living has affected us all in varying ways. We have all been forced to tighten our belts and adjust how and where we spend our money. What then of the already poor and vulnerable members of our communities? They are the ones that have been affected the most, particularly by the soaring food prices. At JDC, every day we experience an increase in requests asking us for help with food, now than before, more families cannot afford even the most basic food items. In an attempt to meet this need, we have undertaken a food drive like no other we have done before. This July, we are bringing Christmas early to a minimum 31 families in need. Of course, we would love to distribute to more than 31 families, so don't be shy donate as must as you can. Christmas in July is a food drive that will take place during the month of July. The idea is to collect 31 food parcels containing 31 items collected over the 31 days in July. The project begins on July 1, 2022 and ends on July 31, 2022. The collected parcels will be distributed in early August to 31 lucky families. JDC will distribute the parcels to at least 31 less fortunate families from Cosmo City, Diepsloot, Zandspruit and surrounding areas. Beneficiaries The project will benefit at least 31 households from less fortunate backgrounds. This will be outside of JDC’s normal monthly grocery outreach beneficiaries. Over the month of July, JDC will conduct an extensive needs analysis to find the most deserving families. Action Plan Each week, on our social media platforms we will share a shopping list, the idea is that you shop for the items while you do your weekly shopping. We will pick 6 - 7 non-perishable grocery/necessity items and add one luxury item per week. That then adds up to approximately 28-32 items in total collected over the four weeks in July. We will share the shopping list every Wednesday on our socials under the “up-coming events” post. Once all items have been collected, complete parcels can be dropped off at our offices no later than Friday, 05 August 2022. Alternatively, weekly items can be dropped off at our offices, and we will put together the parcels. To see the weekly shopping list, visit our Facebook page @jhbdreamcenter every Wednesday. We have selected the most necessary non-perishable items to go in the parcels, and of course it wouldn’t be Christmas without a few treats, especially for the little family members. 3 - JDC Christmas in July The full shopping list: 2.5kg Maize meal, 2.5kg Rice ,2.5kg Cake flour, 2.5kg Sugar beans, 2.5kg Samp 750ml Cooking oil, Salt , Curry powder, Stock cubes, Tea, Soup, 1Lt long-life milk, Canned beans , Pilchards , Jam, Peanut butter, 1kg Instant porridge 18.
