Monica
Comfort. Inclusivity. Identify. Belonging.
Monica’s vision & mission:
Monica's vision is centered around unity - which is an important part of a community. We introduce this to our students from the time that they are newcomers and therefore put it into practice in our community. We focus on learning how to be open-minded and learning from each other brings a stronger sense of belonging. Our mission is to offer guidance and create an environment that allows for personal growth opportunities, comfort, inclusivity, identity, and a sense of belonging.
What are we currently doing?
Monica will assist the animal shelter in Stellenbosch by walking dogs and earning coupons to assist the homeless. Assisting Stellenbosch Night Shelter in terms of food prep and distribution. The Kuyasa Tutoring Programme with high school tutors from the residence. These plans will be done fortnightly in collaboration with other residences in the Victoria cluster and students will have 15 minutes of reflection/discussion after each. We might do a clothes drive to distribute to orphanages and underprivileged members of the community. Within Monica, food and pads will be donated to residents (Monica Residence Saint Box) and an end of year tokens of appreciation for the cleaning and kitchen staff.
