Who are you and what do you do?

Life 4 U Foundation was established and registered in 2013 to develop the community of Tembisa and its surrounding areas. The organization is based in Moriting Section in Tembisa, and our primary objective is to eradicate poverty and develop the youth and the community of Ivory Park, Tembisa and surrounding areas with our various programs aimed at developing our communities.

Life 4 U runs different programs which includes a child feeding scheme, youth computer lab, Widows and Orphans Project and WASH 4 Life Campaign.

Why did you get started?

The organization was established after thorough feasibility which was conducted to assess the needs our communities. The research showed high prevalence of poverty amongst the community members and many people who include children were starving and sleeping with empty stomachs. We also realized that many widows and orphans were alone and neglected, especially those involved in family feuds. Youth unemployment was increasing nonstop; and the scourge of Nyaope, alcohol and drugs abuse, teenage pregnancy, crime were increasing dramatically.

On the other hand, local schools and the Basic Education Department were facing serious toilet hygiene challenge as learners were using dirty broken toilets.

Our recent beneficiary story highlights the plight of 85-year-old Gogo Mabie Ndwengula who lived in a worn-out makeshift shack with broken window, and leaking roof which was infested by cat-like rodents who were terrorizing the family. Gogo Ndwegula is caring for 5 orphaned children and the family daily survived on food handouts from the community members and sometimes the family slept on empty stomach.

Life 4 U Foundation was informed by community members of the plight of Gogo Ndwengula. We immediately sprang into action by assessing their needs; and our immediate response was to help with food parcels. The primary goal was to assist with building the house; and with the support of an Afroworld journalist and the local councillor the government managed to build Gogo Ndwengula a house.

Although the situation has slightly improved and with our organization continually supporting the family with food donations; a lot still to be needed to demolish the shacks and to clean the yard; and also assist the grandchild to go to college or find a job. Gogo’s new house also needs wardrobe, bed, kitchen utensils and essential home items.
