The Breast Health Foundation

We asked this Cause 3 Questions: >> Who are you and what do you do? >> Why did you get started? >> Tell us a story - a person you helped - that keeps you going...

Tell us a bit about your Cause - who are you and what do you do?

Our vision for all South Africans is to increase awareness for breast health/cancer, promote education and treatment and to provide informative and emotional support in respect of breast health. We are here not for income, but for outcome!

The Breast Health Foundation (BHF), is a Not for Profit established in April 2002 in conjunction with several companies and organisations to educate the public on breast cancer and breast health, increase awareness and empower women.

Our projects include:

-Mobile education units

-Breast Care Clinic support programmes and patient navigation

-Breast Health Training Platform for healthcare professionals

-Cancer Comfort Care Bags for newly diagnosed

Why did you get started?

Since its inception, the BHF has developed into a transparent and effective organisation which reaches our nation’s women. The money that is raised is used to teach women – those who have had and those who have not had breast cancer – to spread the word of the importance of self-examination and medical examinations.

The BHF aims to put to rest myths surrounding breast cancer and to provide an open forum where women feel that they can come forward with their problems. Traditionally, women in Africa have been seen as the heart and soul of the family. By ensuring their health and by educating them, the health education messages are passed on to children, husbands and partners.

Tell us the one beneficiary story – a person you helped – that keeps you going

During Mandela Month, The Breast Health Foundation ran a campaign in aid of 667 Cancer Comfort Care Bags. With the support of offers via forgood, individuals and corporate partners we could pack 667 bags filled with items that will help newly diagnosed Breast Cancer patients commencing chemotherapy to manage their uncomfortable side-effects.
