Barrage Skills Development Center (BSDC) is a community-based organisation based in the rural areas outside Vanderbijlpark in the Sedibeng District. We empower unemployed youth through practical skills development in agriculture and artisan trades, enabling them to secure employment or establish sustainable businesses. BSDC has successfully demonstrated this model by training local youth in plumbing to repair household water leaks. The project repaired 1,090 households, significantly improving water pressure and reducing the daily water interruptions experienced by residents. Although the results were highly successful, funding constraints limited the programme's expansion. Our model addresses five key community priorities: Youth Employment – Train unemployed youth and provide a monthly stipend of R2,000 during the training period.
