From Learner to Leader

One of our Eco Club learners was chosen by her classmates to become their Eco Club Ambassador and help teach younger children about wildlife conservation. It was wonderful to see her grow in confidence and realise that she can inspire others to protect the environment.

One of the greatest rewards at DAKTARI is seeing children discover confidence they never knew they had. During the first cycle of our Eco Club programme this year, Mikayla was chosen by her classmates to become their Eco Club Ambassador. Although she was very shy at first, she accepted the challenge of helping our team teach a Wildlife Crime Campaign lesson at another local primary school. After a little preparation, Mikayla stood in front of a classroom of learners, helping to teach the lesson, translating from English into Sepedi, and making sure every child understood the importance of protecting South Africa's wildlife. By the end of the day, her shyness had disappeared. She told us how proud she felt for stepping outside her comfort zone and making a difference. At DAKTARI, we don't just teach children about conservation—we help them discover that they have the confidence and ability to become role models in their own communities.
