Eland School – ‡Khomani San Community, Andriesvale NC When the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park was proclaimed during the 1930’s, the livelihoods and freedom of movement of some of South Africa’s last remaining First Peoples, were curtailed In 1995 they lodged a claim for land restitution which was finally settled on 21st March 1999. Little development has taken place and the Community is still waiting on basic amenities. Eland School offers much needed education and services to the community. Eland School R, 1 and 2 ( Grade 3 is planned for 2027) offers free mainstream education within a supportive, San-sensitive Framework which includes linguistic and cultural teaching. At the outset in 2014, the entire community participated in a house to house survey, to obtain the communities permission to go ahead with the proposed Foundation Phase model.
