More about Masicorp

Masiphumelele is home to over 40,000 people and faces many daily challenges, including high unemployment, poor education facilities, and limited access to basic services. These issues make it hard for families to break the cycle of poverty. Masicorp is helping to change that. Through education and skills training, we give people the tools they need to build better futures. Every year, our programmes reach over 5,200 children and adults in the community. Your support will help us do even more: Provide quality educational programmes: More than 5,200 children and adults each year will benefit from high-quality learning and training opportunities. Improve learning spaces and resources: Your investment will help us upgrade and maintain much-needed educational spaces in a community where free or affordable options are extremely limited. Empower local programme leaders: You’ll help us train and support skilled educators, trainers, and support staff. 85% of Masicorp’s team lives in ...

Our three pre-schools, Masi Educare, Chasmay Educare and Sunnydale Educare, care for over 300 children from the Masi community, providing them with quality, affordable early childhood education, from ages 18 months to 6 years of age. Our teachers (all members of the Masi community) are all provided with the necessary early childhood development certification needed to look after the children in their care. Children at these centres receive 2 cooked meals per day, as well as fruit. They also receive termly assessments ensuring that they are progressing, or to identify learning challenges. We aim for each child to leave our care with a firm foundation for future learning.

The project aims to reach many of the informal crèches in Masiphumelele and provide these children with art therapy, crafts, singing, dancing and other educational activities.
This is done in an effort to upskill the carers/crèche owners who often do not have the skills to provide the children in their care with, engaging and stimulating educational activities. Carers attend regular sessions along with the children and are also provided with educational equipment and stationery which can be used at their crèche.

As well as our English Hub, we also run a Maths Lab at Ukhanyo Primary School. We train Ukhanyo Primary School teachers in proven effective maths instruction, by modelling teaching methods and classroom management. Trust is fostered as teachers see for themselves the dramatic improvement in learner confidence and comprehension. We inspire learners to love mathematics through interesting classes, fun-filled afternoon Maths Clubs and by opening up the Maths Lab at break times so that any learner can come in to do mathematics.

Masicorp's English Hub at Ukhanyo Primary School focuses on English education, building reading and literacy in primary school children, as well as supporting and modelling teaching methods to the teachers. This school, like many in South Africa, is overcrowded and under-resourced. Our English Hub is an accompaniment to the English syllabus, and strengthens and develops the language skills in a bright and well equipped learning environment.
