From the 5th to 9th of May, we observe National Burns Awareness Week –
Been through a burn injury — or know someone who has? The scars aren’t always visible. Burn trauma affects the mind as much as the body.
This is a time dedicated to promoting burn prevention and safety. It’s not only about treating injuries — it’s about preventing them too. In South Africa, fire safety at home and in the workplace is critical. Here are 3 simple tips to help avoid fires: 1️⃣ Be careful with paraffin and gas stoves. Always use them on a stable surface, ensure good ventilation, and never leave them unattended. 2️⃣ Use electricity safely. Avoid overloading plug points and be cautious after load shedding. Power surges can spark fires — use surge protectors and check for damaged cords. 3️⃣ Be safe with candles. Place candles in sturdy holders, away from flammable items. Never leave them burning overnight — especially during load shedding. 👉 Our latest blog explores the psychological impact of burn injuries and offers practical coping strategies to support mental recovery. 📖 Read the blog here- https://themustardseedtree.com/.../psychological-impact.../ 🧠 Mental health matters.
