Patient AS
Walking Alongside AS and Her Family AS is a bright and engaging 10-year-old living with biliary atresia, a condition that required a liver transplant. Sadly, her chronic liver disease continues to progress.
Paedspal supports AS, her family and healthcare team through symptom management, advance care planning and holistic support focused on her comfort and quality of life. Our family counsellor provides emotional support to her mother, while our creative arts therapist offers AS a supportive space to express her feelings and experiences. Caring for a child with a serious illness can require a parent to leave their job to ensure their child receives the care and support they need. This often means losing a vital source of household income while facing the additional challenges of caring for a seriously ill child. Paediatric palliative care addresses the physical, emotional and psychosocial needs of children with serious illnesses, while supporting their families through uncertainty and complex decisions. Every child deserves to be heard, every family deserves support, and no family should face this journey alone.
