PASA was founded in 2006 in response to the growing substance abuse crisis affecting communities across South Africa. Drug and alcohol misuse—particularly among young people—was escalating, placing enormous strain on families, schools, and community structures. The founder, Frederick Trout and his brother Wayne Windvoël and a group of passionate community members, volunteers, and early prevention advocates came together to create an initiative that aimed to: Raise awareness about the dangers and consequences of substance abuse. Equip young people with life skills and knowledge to resist peer pressure. Provide information and support to families affected by addiction. Engage communities in collective efforts to reduce drug-related harm. Connect families with effective and affordable rehabilitation for loved ones.
