Retina South Africa is the only patient-led group in the country that advocates for and supports people with retinal diseases causing vision loss and blindness. We are deeply committed to improving the lives of those facing these challenges by providing vital resources, such as education, training, counselling, and, most importantly, opportunities to thrive-especially through sport. Founded in 1980 as the Retinitis Pigmentosa Society, Retina SA was created by a group of courageous patients who wanted to find a cure for inherited retinal diseases. When these individuals discovered that their children also had these diseases, they joined forces to offer each other support. Together, they sought not only a cure but a future in which people with retinal diseases would live full, active lives.
