The Santa Shoebox Project originated in Cape Town in 2006, with the number of Santa Shoeboxes donated to date reaching a total of 1 378 072 children-in-need. The Shoeboxes are distributed to more than 1 000 recipient facilities each year, through 50+ satellites around South Africa. Donors give gifts of essentials and treats to children whose first names, ages and genders are known. SSP Legacy brings permanent change to the lives of Santa Shoebox beneficiary children and to the impoverished communities in which they live, by building Early Childhood Development Centres in rural South Africa (8 so far), with the focus on infrastructure & Department of Basic Education registration, teacher training, and early literacy. 236 640 children have been impacted by SSP Legacy work. ...
