Sparrow Society

Sparrow Society is a CBO committed to advancing the dignity, wellbeing, and economic empowerment of women and girls from under-resourced communities in South Africa. We work primarily with survivors of gender-based violence, adolescent girls affected by period poverty, and unemployed young women facing barriers to education and employment. Our approach is rooted in holistic, trauma-informed support that addresses both immediate needs and long-term pathways to independence and financial inclusion. Our flagship initiative, the Sparrows Rising Programme, integrates skills development, psychosocial support, and dignity-driven interventions. Through the Power Pads Programme, survivors are trained to produce reusable sanitary pads, enabling them to earn an income in a safe and supportive environment while rebuilding confidence and self-reliance.
