HISTORY. St Michael’s Child and Youth Care Centre (CYCC), formerly known as St Michael’s Children’s Home, was founded in 1870 on Keerom Street, Cape Town, as a refuge for children orphaned by war. It finally moved to its current premises in Plumstead in 1954. Today, St Michael’s CYCC provides a safe and nurturing environment for 33 young women aged 13 to 18. VISION: To nurture and empower young women in a safe space, fostering independence and wholeness in a diverse society. MISSION: To provide a secure home for young women and equip them with the necessary skills for independent adulthood. PURPOSE The Centre offers innovative therapeutic and developmental residential care for young girls from the Western Cape, aged 13 to 18, who have suffered severe trauma and have been removed from their families for their safety by order of the Children’s Court.
