Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services is a registered non-profit organisation founded in 2013 by Tersia Burger, based in Alberton, Gauteng. The organisation provides holistic palliative and end-of-life care to patients and their families, operating an 8-bed Adult In-Patient Unit, a dedicated Children's Palliative Care Unit (one of only five such registered facilities in South Africa), home-based care and nursing, and bereavement counselling services. Since inception, the hospice has supported over 4 300 adult patients and approximately 40 000 family members, caring for around 150 patients monthly. It is the only hospice in Gauteng to hold both CoHSASA accreditation and a five-star APCC rating simultaneously, and in 2025 was awarded the Global Recognition Award for its ground-breaking approach to end-of-life care — recognised as a continental leader in palliative care innovation.
