Help The Homestead by donating 270 food parcels for children and youth
Here's a little more info about this opportunity...
For many of the children attending our community centres, their families are facing deep hardship and struggle to put even the most basic food on the table. During this time, our community drop-in centres close for a short period, which means children no longer have access to the daily nutritious meals they rely on throughout the year. The children living in our Child and Youth Care Centres also long to spend time with their families during the festive season. For these reunions to be safe, healthy, and positive, we need to ensure that families have enough food to welcome their children home with dignity. This Christmas, we want to make sure families can share a meal together and that children don’t go hungry. We’re raising funds to provide 270 food parcels, each filled with essential groceries to sustain a family during this special time. Each parcel costs R355 and includes baked beans, cooking oil, cake flour, rice, maize meal, sugar, fusion drink mix, instant porridge, yeast, corned meat, pasta, peanut butter, and tea. Any extra funds or donated items will go towards meeting ongoing nutritional needs at our centres in the new year — ensuring children continue to receive daily nutritious meals even after the festive season.

Helpful tips
Stay safe
- 1. Don’t pass any personal information to people you haven’t met offline before.
- 2. When meeting one of your contacts offline for the first time, always be sure to arrange to meet in a public place.
- 3. Make sure that you are not left alone with someone that you have never met before.
- 4. Know where you’re going. If you’re headed off the beaten track or into an unfamiliar part of town, be sure you have directions and a GPS or map book.
- 5. If you feel unsafe, consult the person in charge and let him or her know.
- 6. Avoid wearing expensive jewellery: it could get damaged, lost or stolen.
- 7. Ask, ask, ask! If you’re worried about something or concerned about your safety in a certain situation, ask the person in charge.
