Bridging the Digital Divide – One Young Person at a Time In today's economy, access to the internet is no longer a luxury—it is an essential tool for education, employment, entrepreneurship and participation in society. Yet many young people in our communities face a significant barrier: they do not have reliable access to affordable internet connectivity and data. Thokoza Progressive Youth (TPY) is seeking support to provide young people with data, internet connectivity and digital access so that they can learn, apply for opportunities, complete online courses, access employment platforms, develop digital skills and participate meaningfully in the digital economy. Our goal is to ensure that a lack of data does not prevent a young person from accessing an opportunity that could change their life. Why This Matters? Young people increasingly need internet access to: Apply for jobs and internships. Search and apply for bursaries. Complete online learning and certifications. Access educational resources. Attend virtual classes and training. Build CVs and professional profiles. Develop digital and technology skills. Participate in coding and software-development programmes. Access entrepreneurship and business opportunities. Communicate with potential employers and clients. Access government and youth-development services. For a young person who cannot afford data, something as simple as submitting an online application can become a major obstacle. We want to remove that obstacle. What TPY Is Building Thokoza Progressive Youth is developing its Innovation and Technology Centre as a platform where young people can access technology, digital skills training, career development and opportunities. The Centre supports programmes in areas including: Digital Literacy ICDL CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ CompTIA A+ CompTIA Network+ Cisco/CCNA Cybersecurity Coding and Software Development Data and technology skills Online learning and career development Connectivity is therefore a critical part of our broader digital-skills ecosystem. Training without connectivity limits what learners can do outside the classroom. We want our learners to continue learning, practising, researching and accessing opportunities even after they leave the training room. What We Are Asking For We are appealing to companies, technology organisations, telecommunications companies, foundations and individuals to support us with: Data Prepaid mobile data bundles Monthly data packages Bulk data sponsorships Educational data packages Connectivity Fibre or wireless internet sponsorship Internet service provision Wi-Fi infrastructure Routers and connectivity equipment Installation and monthly connectivity costs Digital Equipment Where possible, we also welcome: Wi-Fi routers MiFi devices SIM cards Laptops Tablets Network equipment Other equipment that can help young people connect to the internet. Who We Want to Help Our primary beneficiaries are young people from disadvantaged communities, particularly unemployed youth, students, job seekers, aspiring entrepreneurs and young people who are actively pursuing digital and technology skills. We want to prioritise young people who demonstrate a genuine need for connectivity and are actively using the opportunity for: Learning → Skills → Opportunities → Employment → Entrepreneurship How Your Support Can Make a Difference A contribution towards connectivity can help a young person: Apply for a job. -Complete an online course. -Attend a virtual class. -Write an online assessment. -Apply for a bursary. -Build a professional CV. -Learn coding. -Study for an international IT certification. -Start an online business. -Connect with an employer. What may seem like a small data bundle can become the connection between a young person and a life-changing opportunity. Our Goal TPY aims to establish a sustainable Digital Connectivity Support Programme that provides qualifying learners and young people with regular access to connectivity and data. We would like to build partnerships with organisations willing to sponsor: Individual learners Classes or cohorts Monthly data Internet connectivity at the TPY Innovation and Technology Centre Wi-Fi infrastructure Digital access programmes We also welcome organisations that can provide long-term connectivity partnerships, rather than once-off donations.
