TEARS Foundation is looking for volunteers and donors who can assist us by collecting essential items for our Hope Bags. These bags are provided to survivors of rape and sexual assault as a practical gesture of care, dignity and support during a difficult time. We provide several types of Hope Bags, each designed to meet the specific needs of the recipient. 1. Hope Bags for Women and Men Each bag requires the following items: • A4-sized fabric drawstring bag • Face cloth • Ladies' panties, small, medium or large o Please do not donate g-strings or underwear with writing on them. o No used underwear. • Gents' underpants, small, medium or large o Please do not donate g-strings or underwear with writing on them. o No used underwear. • Sanitary towels, sealed packs of 10 • Soap, preferably bars • Toothpaste • Toothbrush • Shampoo, travel size • Deodorant, spray or roll-on • Comb or hairbrush • Body lotion • Small notebook and pen • Tissues, small packs • Sweets or energy sweets, such as Super-C or glucose o Please do not donate chocolate, as it may melt inside the bags. • Small bottled water or juice • Lip balm or small Vaseline • A handwritten note containing words of comfort, care and encouragement • T-shirts or golf shirts for women and men o Gently used items are accepted. 2. Hope Bags for Girls and Boys These bags are intended for children between the ages of 2 and 12 and require: • A4-sized fabric drawstring bag • Surgical gloves, optional • Girls' panties or boys' underpants, ages 2 to 12 o No used underwear, please. • Small pack of tissues • Small pack of wet wipes • Bar of soap • Face cloth • Toothpaste • Toothbrush • Hairbrush or comb • Lip balm or small Vaseline • Sanitary towels o Please donate individually sealed sanitary towels, as three are placed in each Hope Bag. • Small brown paper bag, optional • Notebook and pen • Colouring book and crayons • Plasters, optional • Small bottled water or juice • Snacks such as chips, sweets or biscuits • Teddy bear or soft toy • Small hand towel or blanket • T-shirts or golf shirts for girls and boys - Gently used items are accepted. 3. Baby Hope Bags Baby Hope Bags require the following: • A4-sized fabric drawstring bag • Baby blanket • Surgical gloves • Small packet of nappies, newborn, size 1, size 2 or size 3 • Small brown paper bag • Packet of cotton wool balls • Packet of wet wipes • Bum cream • Vaseline • Baby vest • Leggings • Baby gown • Face cloth • Soft teddy bear or toy • Baby powder • Baby cream • Baby soap • Baby shampoo • Towel A Note About Donations: We kindly request that all donated items are new, wherever possible. Providing new items helps communicate a message of dignity, care and respect to every survivor who receives a Hope Bag. It also allows us to maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness. Every Hope Bag is more than a collection of essential items. It is a reminder to a survivor that they are cared for, supported and not alone.
