The South African government declared Gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) as a national disaster in November 2025. Organisations like the South African Red Cross Society (SARCS) who has 'Protection and Empowerment' among its core programs seeks to fundraise towards this cause to enable strengthening efforts to address this societal challenge that has caused weakening of social fabric. Women and children are more vulnerable to GBVF in South Africa and SARCS is calling for partners, sponsors and donors to contribute financially to assist in reaching more vulnerable people to ensure provision of safe shelter, enhanced referral system, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support and more.
