A Chicken Bone Pierced Her Throat—But No One Noticed Until It Was Almost Too Late Sarah's story is a heartbreaking reminder of why we do this. Yesterday, another sick and possibly injured cat crossed our path at Hydra Arc—an area where we had already completed TNR. We thought they were safe. We hoped their suffering was over. But life on the streets is harsh and unforgiving. This quiet girl, unnoticed and alone, was trapped early in the morning by Lana Gabrielsen and Ismari Lester and rushed to Evander Dierekliniek. She was in such poor condition that she had to be sedated just for examination, and what the vet team found was devastating. Sarah had no teeth. She had a wound near her throat. And worst of all, a chicken bone was lodged in her oesophagus, pushing through her body. It had been there so long that the surrounding tissue had begun to break down. Can you imagine that pain? Day in and day out, unable to eat properly, silently suffering, with no one noticing until she was finally close enough to be helped. She has now undergone surgery. Her oesophagus is stitched and extremely fragile. She can’t eat pellets or hard food—any wrong move could be fatal. But she is finally safe. With us, she will heal, gently and with dignity. Because she matters. This is why we beg. This is why we trap. This is why we fight. Feral cats like Sarah are not broken, and they are certainly not worthless. They are survivors—and they’ve endured more than most of us can imagine. Please, support our work. Share this post. Speak out. Donate if you can. Show compassion. Because the life of even one forgotten cat is worth saving.
