Help Youth Alliance For Safer Cities by donating funds for Gender Based Violence awareness for Epworth Community through skills development
Here's a little more info about this opportunity...
We are looking forward to piloting 'The Green Shield Project', which addresses the urgent need to reduce gender-based violence (GBV) in urban and peri-urban informal settlements like Epworth, where vulnerable youth and women face significant safety challenges. Disused spaces such as abandoned quarries often become sites of insecurity and neglect. By transforming a disused open quarry pit popularly known as 'The Pool of Death' into a productive green park, this project directly tackles these safety concerns while promoting community revitalization. Our innovative approach integrates aquaponics and hydroponics—sustainable, resource-efficient farming methods that produce nutritious food with minimal water and space. This integration of environmental sustainability with social impact empowers local youth by providing them with practical skills in urban agriculture, environmental stewardship, and entrepreneurship. Through active involvement, young people gain economic opportunities, leadership skills, and a stronger sense of community, all of which are vital to breaking cycles of violence. The project will deliver meaningful environmental benefits, including water conservation and waste recycling within the aquaponics system, while greening a neglected urban area. The green park will become a safe, inclusive community hub that fosters well-being and social cohesion. Importantly, the Green Shield Project is designed to be scalable and replicable in other urban slums and informal settlements facing similar challenges. We will build strong partnerships with local authorities, NGOs, and funders to support expansion and sustainability. Strategies for community ownership and revenue generation will be implemented to ensure long-term viability. To maintain accountability and demonstrate impact, the project will include robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks. These will track reductions in GBV incidents, youth engagement, food security improvements, and environmental gains. Transparent reporting will keep donors and stakeholders informed and engaged. The Green Shield Project offers a holistic, multi-dimensional solution that empowers youth, promotes safety, and advances sustainable urban development, making it a powerful investment for donors committed to lasting social change
