About this campaign
Every journey begins with a single step, and while many are filled with joy and promise, some require incredible sacrifice.
August is Women’s Month in South Africa, a time to honour the thousands of women who marched to the Union Buildings on August 9, 1956, to protest the extension of Pass Laws to women. This historic event marked a turning point in the fight for freedom and equality, showcasing the strength and resilience of women in our society.
From that momentous day, women from all walks of life became equal partners in the struggle for a non-racial, non-sexist South Africa. Women’s Month celebrates not only those who marched in 1956 but also the pioneers of the women’s movement, dating back to 1913 when leaders like Charlotte Maxeke helped establish the ANC Women’s League and encouraged women to join the fight for freedom.
These pioneering women stood up and confronted the status quo, proving that even the greatest tyranny can be defeated by the actions of a few brave individuals.
Over 100 years have passed since these courageous women began their journey for empowerment and liberation. Today, South Africa has transformed dramatically, thanks in large part to the sacrifices of women throughout our history.
This Women’s Month, forgood is celebrating the incredible women of our nation. Join us in making a difference by contributing to a Cause that supports and uplifts the women in our communities.
Let's honour their legacy and continue the journey together!
