What is the STEAM After-school Program (STEAM-AP)? The STEAM Afterschool Program (STEAM-AP) will offer a safe, secure place where Delft South Grade 9 to 11 students can receive academic support and mentoring services. STEAM-AP acknowledges the importance of parents and/or guardians in a child’s education and seeks to partner with families in establishing a better future for youth through this academic support and mentoring services. ACADEMIC SUPPORT – S.T.E.A.M STEAM-AP is dedicated to improving academic success for its participants in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Activities (Field trips, Physical Activities, Community Service projects, Arts/ Skills Development), Maths, and by providing skilled assistance with homework and tutoring MENTORING SERVICES Mentoring Service will allow STEAM-AP participants to explore Entrepreneurship and career interests and envision themselves in those careers. Mentors who have been successful in various areas will be recruited to work with participants -offers job shadow days where Students can visit its offices and experience a day in the life of a STEAM engineer What are STEAM-AP’s primary goals and objectives? STEAM-AP’s primary goals and objectives are: -Raising awareness of STEAM subjects and entrepreneurship in Delft South -Raising aspirations of young people in Delft South -Delivery well structured and organized Afterschool program -Questioning young people and teachers' misconceptions of entrepreneurs and STEAM subject - To strengthen student engagement and improve students' academic achievement in the Delft South community. - To focus students on setting and achieving higher educational aspirations, to achieve the South African Dream after high school. - To afford participants the opportunity to have a constant flow of positive mentors and role models from within and outside the Delft South community who will inspire students to achieve academic excellence and success in life. - To provide an environment that facilitates participants’ initiative, independence, and creativity while learning appropriate social skills, behavioral expectations, and boundaries. - To provide experiences that improve self-esteem and a sense of belonging - Where applicable, to break the cycle of generational poverty in families.
