Help Silver Lining Foundation by ๐ Putting Wheels Under a Silver Lining for our Mitchells Plain community outreach programs
Here's a little more info about this opportunity...
Sometimes, a bakkie isn't just a bakkie. Sometimes, it's the difference between saying โI'm sorry, we can't collect itโ and saying โYes. We'll be there.โ My name is Ashley, and I'm asking for your help to put reliable wheels under the Silver Lining Foundation, a small community organisation working in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town. We aren't a big organisation with a fleet of vehicles, a warehouse full of supplies, or a corporate budget. We're a small team of people who saw a need in our community and decided to do something about it, and we've been doing it the hard way. โค๏ธ We started with what we had. Our programs currently reach children, families and senior citizens who are dealing with poverty, educational barriers and the everyday consequences of living in a community where simply getting by can be a struggle. Every week, we're working directly with people who need a little help โ and sometimes a lot. We currently run: ๐ Literacy & Phonics Clinics Helping primary school children who are struggling to read and giving them the tools and confidence to keep up at school. ๐ง Child Psychosocial Support Creating safe spaces and providing emotional support for children who are carrying far more than children should have to carry. ๐ Community Book Days Putting books into children's hands โ and making sure they don't go home hungry either, by combining reading with a warm, nutritious meal. ๐งบ Family & Senior Relief Providing essentials such as winter clothing, hygiene products and bulk meals to families and elderly people who are genuinely struggling. And we're not stopping there. ๐ฑ What's next? Next year, we're planning a pilot program specifically for neurodiverse and disabled children. The focus isn't simply on looking after them. It's on helping them become more independent. Things many of us take for granted โ handling money, understanding road safety, communicating, navigating everyday situations and developing practical life skills โ can become major milestones for a child who needs a different kind of support. We want to help them reach those milestones. ๐จ But we've hit a very real problem. We need a vehicle. At the moment, we have an old vehicle that we use to keep everything moving. And "moving" is sometimes the operative word. It is small. It is unreliable. It regularly needs repairs. And that creates a ridiculous situation: People are offering us donations that we simply cannot collect. Books. Blankets. Food. Bulk supplies. Generous donations that could make a real difference to families in Mitchells Plain โ but without a dependable utility vehicle, we sometimes have to say: โThank you, but we can't get it here.โ That's the part that hurts. Because the need is there. The donations are there. The people willing to help are there. What's missing is the ability to connect the two. ๐ That's where you come in. We're raising R130,000 to replace our ageing vehicle with a dependable second-hand utility vehicle โ something practical, safe and capable of doing the work. A vehicle with a canopy or enclosed load space would allow us to collect substantially larger donations of food, books, clothing and other essential supplies. It would also mean fewer resources disappearing into emergency mechanical repairs. In simple terms: More money and more donations reaching people. Less money disappearing under a bonnet. ๐ฐ Where will the money go? Our target is R130,000, which will be used for: - ๐ Purchase of a reliable second-hand utility vehicle - ๐ Licensing and registration - โ Roadworthy and safety requirements - ๐ง An initial major mechanical service We're not looking for luxury. We're looking for a workhorse. Something that starts when we turn the key, carries what we need, and gets us home again. โค๏ธ And here's the thing about us... Until now, Silver Lining Foundation has been kept alive largely out of our own pockets. We've personally funded the work because we believe the impetus behind what we do is not about money, but partnering for a good cause.
