Here's a little more info about this opportunity...

The Children Of Light Educare Trust is an NPO, registered with the South African Department of Social Development (149-100 NPO). The beneficiaries of Children of Light Educare are children between the ages of 3 to 6, who live in three informal settlements, being namely, ‘Flamingo Heights’, ‘Mohan Avenue’ and ‘Hadji Ebrahim’ all located in the suburb of Athlone within Cape Town, South Africa. the communities of ‘Flamingo Heights’, ‘Mohan Avenue’ and ‘Hadji Ebrahim’ experience a range of challenges including high unemployment, violence, gangsterism, neglect, poor role models, lack of love and care and lack of nutrition. It is widely recognised in literature that children from vulnerable communities are at greater risk than children from families with access to resources. The impact of the main activities/objectives • 100% pass rate of learners • Increased attendance of learners • Happy and healthy children with a love for learning • Children have an opportunity to play and learn in a safe and secure space. • Teachers are upskilling themselves, in order to attain ECD qualifications, ie level 4 and 5 Certificate in early Childhood Development. These skills have a direct impact of the quality of teaching for the children. • To date we have had 63 underprivileged children that have received free, quality education and placement in Primary Schools. • Parents are maintaining their hygiene more over the years by washing and dressing their children and each morning have the children ready for school pick up. • The children’s (kid’s) behaviour with swearing and fighting has reduced dramatically. • Parents are more interested in their child’s education and attend quarterly parent teacher meetings regularly. • Children receive 3 meals per day. On a weekly basis bread and food parcels are given to families, current and past. • Health services offered: clinic cards opened at local clinic for all children, ensure immunisations are up to date. Primary Health Care Nurse talks to our parents about Maternal and Child Health, Family Planning, managing illnesses such as diarrhoea and health education. Private dental services offered to 10 children. Besides donations for food, clothing and funding, volunteering is also a big need and always welcomed at our educare.
