Help Project Literacy by Donating books to stock our Library Bus for children

Here's a little more info about this opportunity...

Project Literacy is on a mission to help adults, children and youth across South Africa become literate, and reading materials are at the heart of that work. We're asking donors to help us stock our mobile library bus, which brings books directly into communities with little or no access to libraries - turning a simple bus into a gateway to reading and learning. We need a wide range of books suitable for young children through to teens, including picture books, early readers, age-appropriate fiction, non-fiction, and English literacy or language-learning titles. Books in Afrikaans and other South African languages are welcome. Both new and gently used books are welcome, provided they are in good, readable condition — no torn pages, missing covers, mould, or heavy water damage, please. Your donation will help fill the shelves of our library bus and put books directly into the hands of readers who need them most

Helpful tips

Stay safe

  1. 1Don’t pass any personal information to people you haven’t met offline before.
  2. 2When meeting one of your contacts offline for the first time, always be sure to arrange to meet in a public place.
  3. 3Make sure that you are not left alone with someone that you have never met before.
  4. 4Know where you’re going. If you’re headed off the beaten track or into an unfamiliar part of town, be sure you have directions and a GPS or map book.
  5. 5If you feel unsafe, consult the person in charge and let him or her know.
  6. 6Avoid wearing expensive jewellery: it could get damaged, lost or stolen.
  7. 7Ask, ask, ask! If you’re worried about something or concerned about your safety in a certain situation, ask the person in charge.
