Here's a little more info about this opportunity...
The Mandelathon campaign, launched on 18 July 2023 (International Mandela Day) seeks to address the critical issues faced by children in South Africa. The campaign encourages giving at various tiers (R67, R670, R6,700, or custom amounts), showing that every contribution matters! No donation is too small, and together, we can create real, lasting change. This year, the goal is bold and clear: R1 MILLION to fight child poverty and violence. Every rand raised will be allocated to programs ensuring food security, child protection, and creation of safe spaces for vulnerable children. Following the Fund’s partnership with Deloitte in developing the Cost of Child Poverty Study 2023, the findings were alarming: • Over 13 million children in South Africa live in poverty. • The government, private sector, and NGOs collectively spend almost R700 billion annually trying to alleviate child poverty. • The amount that is lost by not ensuring that children are capacitated to participate in the economy is estimated at R1.3trillion. These figures make it clear: We cannot afford to ignore child poverty! The Mandelathon is our urgent response to rallying ordinary South Africans around the cause of ensuring children in South Africa do not go hungry, do not suffer abuse, and have access to safe and nurturing environments.
