Inherited retinal conditions cause sight loss in babies, children and adults. A genetic test is how a family finds out exactly what they are facing, and whether a treatment or clinical trial might be possible. But the cost of testing is a barrier for many families, because it is not routinely covered by medical aid or government services. Retina South Africa is taking part in Giving Tuesday on 1 December 2026 for the first time, under the campaign Your Rand, Their Sight.
