Help Afesis Build Financial Resilience for Long-Term Community Impact For nearly five decades, Afesis has worked alongside communities across South Africa to strengthen local democracy, improve access to basic services, and advance social justice. While our programmes continue to create measurable impact, the unpredictable nature of donor funding presents an ongoing challenge to sustaining this work over the long term. Our Board has identified the establishment of organisational financial reserves as a strategic priority to ensure Afesis can withstand funding shocks, protect critical institutional capacity, and continue serving vulnerable communities during periods of reduced grant income. Building unrestricted reserves is essential to safeguarding the organisation's future and increasing our independence and resilience. We are seeking experienced finance, investment, accounting, treasury, risk management, or wealth management professionals to volunteer their expertise in designing a practical reserve-building strategy. This would include developing a simple financial model aligned to our existing four-year budget projections, recommending an appropriate reserve target, proposing realistic annual and monthly contribution mechanisms, identifying suitable investment and cash management principles for nonprofit reserves, and creating a Board-level reporting dashboard that enables effective oversight and monitoring. This opportunity is particularly relevant for professionals working in investment management, private wealth, fiduciary services, corporate finance, accounting, banking, and philanthropy who are passionate about strengthening organisations that create lasting social impact.
