Here's a little more info about this opportunity...

Volunteer Story Editors Needed: Help Young Authors Find Their Voice About Us We are a community-based educational organisation operating in the outskirts of Cape Town, dedicated to providing quality education and creating safe spaces where children can learn and grow. Through our programs, we've positively impacted over 1,000 children and helped 10 young learners become published authors. Our Mission Our mission is to provide quality education for learners in underserved communities by creating supportive environments where they can develop their skills, build confidence, and achieve their full potential. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to discover and share their unique story. Why We Need You We are seeking passionate volunteers to help edit stories written by our learners. These young writers have poured their hearts into their work, and with your guidance, their stories can truly shine. We need editors who can provide more than just corrections—we need mentors who can offer insightful feedback and encouragement to help these children see the value in their own voices. Volunteer Role: Story Editor & Mentor What You'll Do: Review & Edit: Read stories from various age groups, focusing on grammar, structure, and narrative flow. Provide Feedback: Share your personal thoughts on the story—what moved you, what worked well, and specific suggestions on how the learner can improve. Rate the Work: Use our internal system to provide a rating for the manuscript to help us track progress and identify publication-ready pieces. Build Confidence: Provide constructive, kind feedback that empowers young authors to keep writing. Prepare for Publication: Help polish manuscripts that have the potential to reach a wider audience. Time Commitment: Flexible: Set your own hours. Remote: All work is done online. Estimated: 2–5 hours per week (based on your availability). What We’re Looking For Strong English Skills: A high command of written English. Constructive Critics: Ability to give feedback that is both honest and encouraging. Experience (Preferred): Background in editing, teaching, or creative writing is a plus, but not required. Passion: A genuine interest in youth development and literacy. What You’ll Gain Impact: Make a tangible difference in a child’s educational journey. Professional Growth: Gain experience in editorial work, mentorship, and youth education. Community: Connect with a dedicated team of educators and volunteers. Recognition: A letter of recognition for your volunteer service. The Impact You’ll Make Your expertise helps build literacy skills, boosts self-esteem, and gives children in underserved communities a platform to be heard. You aren't just fixing sentences; you are inspiring the next generation of African storytellers. Get Involved Ready to start reading?
