Help Common Good with 10 volunteers for Mock Interviews
Here's a little more info about this opportunity...
Mock Interviews happen on Day 13 of our 16-day Work Readiness Curriculum. A lot of our participants have never experienced a formal job interview before. For most, this will be their first time. We arrange these mock interviews to help them prepare, face their fears and learn that it's not as scary as it may appear. But, we need volunteers to make this happen. It makes it feel more real when the participants are being interviewed by someone they have never met. LENGTH: Each interview is approximately 20 mins long HOW: WhatsApp video call. You as the volunteer will initiate the video call at the time you signed up for. MORE INFO: The day before or morning of the interview(s) you will be sent the participants CV, their phone number as well as the job they would like to practice being interviewed for. You will also receive the rubric/template with the questions you are to ask and a section to fill in your feedback. It's such an easy way to impact a life in such a short space of time. Practicing how to have an interview (and learning some new tips) could be the difference between getting a job or not.
Helpful tips
Stay safe
- 1. Don’t pass any personal information to people you haven’t met offline before.
- 2. When meeting one of your contacts offline for the first time, always be sure to arrange to meet in a public place.
- 3. Make sure that you are not left alone with someone that you have never met before.
- 4. Know where you’re going. If you’re headed off the beaten track or into an unfamiliar part of town, be sure you have directions and a GPS or map book.
- 5. If you feel unsafe, consult the person in charge and let him or her know.
- 6. Avoid wearing expensive jewellery: it could get damaged, lost or stolen.
- 7. Ask, ask, ask! If you’re worried about something or concerned about your safety in a certain situation, ask the person in charge.
