Help Girls and Women Empowerment Network (GWEN) by providing computers and books for the library for adolescent girls, young women, and other young people
Here's a little more info about this opportunity...
As part of GWEN's efforts to promote literacy and education among adolescent girls and young women in rural communities, GWEN is reaching out in an appeal for reading materials, including newspapers, art books, novels, educational books, and books that provide information on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights. We believe that access to quality reading materials is essential for the intellectual and personal growth of adolescent girls, young women, and other young men and boys in Seke District. Our goal is to collect approximately 5,000 books by the end of 2025 for our Connect learning and library center. This center serves as a safe space for young people to access educational resources, access online learning sources, receive mentorship, and develop essential life skills. In addition to reading materials, we are also seeking donations of computers to support our girls and other young people's access to technology and digital resources. This will enable them to develop essential skills in computer literacy, research, and communication. We kindly request that you consider our request and extend it to your networks. Your support will make a big difference in the lives of the adolescent girls and young women we serve. Like many other communities in Zimbabwe, Seke is battling with substance abuse among young people, early unwanted pregnancies, child and forced marriages, and incidences of domestic violence. GWEN hopes that young people’s use and interaction with the community library and computer lab will improve their perspectives on personal and professional development, economic strengthening, skills development, and participation in the global network, so that their exposure to drugs and alcohol is reduced. Girls can envision their lives beyond marriage, dream beyond their poor circumstances, and be motivated to improve their circumstances. Through increased knowledge and access to information, the young people in the community and surrounding areas can better engage and positively influence key decisions in the community and the country, rather than engage in risky and illegal activities.
