Bonnie came into our lives after a terrible dog attack — one so severe that we feared we might lose her. But she survived. Recently, she had a bout of sniffles, then recovered, regained her appetite, and everything seemed normal. Then the neurological symptoms started. Five days ago, the vet suspected possible meningitis, or even FIP, but started treatment for the former. She improved for a while, but last night her condition worsened again. And this is the heartache of Rescue. In your heart, you want to do everything possible to make her better. But then you realize the illness is recurring, her quality of life is declining, and that mercy sometimes goes further than treatment — that letting go can be the kindest act of all. This afternoon, Bonnie passed away peacefully and crossed the bridge. Thank you, Dr. Michelle, for your immense empathy for these vulnerable little souls.
