Mandela Month 2026: Volunteer with Greendale House Mandela Day reminds us that each of us can make a difference. Mandela Month gives us the opportunity to put that into practice. This July, Greendale House Palliative & Hospice Care is inviting businesses across Johannesburg to partner with us through corporate volunteering opportunities that support people living with life-limiting illness and their families. Founded in 1979 as the first hospice in Africa, Greendale House now supports more than 400 patients, family members and carers every day across Johannesburg, Soweto and Lenasia through home-based care, inpatient care, counselling, social work, bereavement support and end-of-life care. There are many ways for your team to get involved, whether for 67 minutes, a day, or as part of an ongoing partnership. At our facilities Your team can: Help in our four thrift shops by sorting donations or running a shop for a day Garden at our community garden in Soweto Bake treats for patients and staff in our Houghton kitchens Assist with painting and repairs at patient homes Host celebrations or special events for patients and families At your office Bring Mandela Month into your workplace by: Running a donation drive for clothing, books, toys or household goods Organising a bake sale, raffle or fundraising event Hosting a themed dress-up day for charity Sponsoring care packages for patients and families Out in the community Challenge your team to take part in: Sponsored walks, runs or cycle rides Sports tournaments or endurance challenges Charity dinners, tea parties or social events Volunteering at Greendale House events such as the Tree of Light or Old Eds Road Race Why volunteer with Greendale House?
